Last Strategy Class!

Done with Strategy!  One down, and two more to go.  I've enjoyed all the classes we've had this quarter, and they go really well together too.  If I had to pick my favorite class this quarter, it would be Entrepreneurship, which took me a few times to figure out how to spell =).  I think I have a entrepreneurial spirit, hence me liking the class the most.

Dinner: chicken and veggie pot pies, salad, fruit, rolls.  This was kind of an odd dinner.  It really wasn't chicken pot pie. It was like chicken and peas/carrots soup? gravy maybe...with a couple of pastries onto.  The pastries were okay, but I can't say much for the "chicken pot pie."  I heard A LOT of complaints about this meal, which prolly makes it one of the worst meals we've had in the program =(

A long week....

Yes, this was an end of a long week of stuff we had with class, then the leadership session, then our study tour meeting, and we had class on Saturday.  Of course not everyone went to the leadership and study tour sessions.  But like I said below, the leadership session was great and the study tour intro meeting was very good as well.  It was a busy, but a productive week

Breakfast: veggie breakfast strata, fruit, yogurt, granola, toast, rice cakes.  We had this egg casserole thing for breakfast.  You can see it in my picture but they didn't list it in the menu.  I was curious what they would call it.  I like it cuz it had eggs in it, but the breading part made it kinda weird.  Still hot food = good!

Lunch: French dip sandwiches, salad, sides. The French dip sandwich was okay.  Personally, I don't think fritos go with the French dip sandwich, but whatever. We also had potatoe salad, which goes better with it.

First Study Tour Meeting

I believe our first Study Tour meeting was on Feb 19th, but it's not showing up on our student calendar.  Our guest speakers were from another program at the university. I want to say International Business, but I don't think I"m right.  They were nice enough to take time away to come speak to us about Chile and Argentina.  We learned a good deal about their history and culture, which was useful for our trip.  We also got this learning Spanish book/CD, but I never had time to use it. doh

We had a ton of food from cheese, fruit, meats, crackers to empanadas and desserts, and of course, wine.  Everything was good, but I still can't decide if I liked that one dessert. It's the one that looks like tiramisu, but it's not.  It's this marshmallowy, chocolatey and carmelly things with this spicy powder on top.  It had a really odd flavor.  FYI, I never saw this dessert in South America, but the wine, we saw lots of on our trip. =)

More Leadership!

We had a treat with the extra session of leadership from Pat on Thursday, and it was great!  It's always great to have discussions with Pat and get great leadership advice and knowledge.  We learned about the Dynamic Leadership quadrant, and how we have to change how we lead depending on each individual's needs.  Oh yeah, as you can see in the picture.  They brought in pizza for us for this session, which was nice.  Pizza is typically well accepted and easy to get.

Do you know your DSI?

The Dominate Selling Idea is what we learned about in our Marketing class.  I decided to write about a company's brand rather and my own brand for our paper, but I think it worked out for me.  I know that many did themselves as the brand, and I heard it was a good exercise.  However, I was told by a number of students that the Career Distinction book was not very good.

Dinner: Panko and herb crusted cod, rice, field greens salad, broccoli & cauliflower casserole, dinner rolls. FISH!! Excellent!! Anything that's non-chicken is usually a good thing.  Well, I should specify: non-chicken, but meat =)  Rice, grilled veggies, and strawberries in your salad, what else do you need?

Need to post.....fast

Well, looking at the syllabus, we had a Strategy class this day where we discussed IP, collaboration, and commercialization, which was a tough read.  However, we also learned about the "3 billion dollar mouse" aka the XenoMouse.

Dinner: chicken marsala, yukon gold potatoes, steamed winter vegetables, baby greens salad, bread. Wow, I remember this meal too.  The chicken was a tad dry, but it was still okay cuz of the "marsala" sauce.  Potatoes: good, Grilled veggies: good, Bread: good, I think this is the bread that I like better than the rolls.

The TechCity Bowl

The TechCity Bowl is where we had our quarterly social outing for Quarter 5.  There was a pretty good showing of people from Class 9 and Class 10.  You were able to bring your family, so many classmate brought their significant others and kids.  It was good times.

The food consisted of pizza and the other stuff you see above like chips, veggie platters, dips, salads, and drink.  The pizza was really not that great...kinda bad actually, which was disappointing.  I guess you can't expect much for food at a bowling alley.  Maybe wings, cheese sticks, or something fried would have been nice.  They woulda helped with the bowling fingers....ewwww

All of about the V and the C

This was the day we had the VC firm, Madrona Ventures Group, visit us. It was great! I really enjoyed learning about what VC's are looking when investing in a company, and also about the investment/funding rounds with the term sheet breakdowns.  $50 million in 5 years or bust!

Breakfast: Assorted muffins & breakfast breads, meat/cheese platter, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt & granola, fruit. Nothing really special for breakfast here. We got the usual choices with the coffee cake, baked brie, and the meat/cheese plate.....which we will be thankful for next quarter.

Lunch: chicken teriyaki, vegetable yakisoba, salad, rice, egg rolls.  The chicken teriyaki was okay. Rice was okay...i hate finding the harder pieces of rice.  They just never cook rice the way that I'm used to. I guess I'm just picking when it comes to rice =)  The egg rolls were okay, but I remember the fried dumplings being pretty good.  I think I got seconds cuz I like rice....even when it's just okay

Zipcar and the billion dollar idea

Zipcar was a pretty interesting case.  We learned that bad leadership could stale your company's growth, but also manages or leaders could take a business idea and take it a whole different direction.  Zipcar was a great example of this original idea and business for a tens of millions market becoming a billion dollar market.

Dinner: gumbo, red beans & rice, corn manque chou, fresh fruit, mixed green salad, dinner rolls.  It's funny how it's been months since I had this meal, but I remember it.....and it wasn't good.  The gumbo was really not like gumbo I've had down South.  I believe there was chicken in the gumbo, but it was picked over. The rest of the meal was okay. I like me some cornbread, and blueberries in the salad could never be bad!
